There are many players who make a part time career of chasing bonuses, clearing them, and cashing out to move to the next bonus opportunity. Most major sites now frown on this and you may be issued a warning if you do it too often. Used properly however, deposit bonuses are a nice reward for your time spent playing at a poker site like Poker Stars.
Many sites such as Poker Stars link your Frequent Player Points (FPP’s) to your play through requirements to clear a bonus. Typically a site will ask that you generate xxx number of FPP’s before your bonus is cleared. In the case of Poker Stars, the bonus is cleared using the following system:
To earn your deposit bonus you must earn a designated number of Base FPPs. The amount Base FPPs you must earn, and the maximum bonus you may earn, may vary by promotion.
- Example 1 - You have a pending 100% bonus with a $25 max and a 5 FPP requirement. If you made a $25 deposit ($25 bonus) you would need to earn 125 Base FPPs (5 x 25) to release the bonus.
- Example 2 - You have a pending 100% bonus with a $50 max and a 10 FPP requirement. If you made a $50 deposit ($50 bonus) you would need to earn 500 Base FPPs (10 x 50) to release the bonus.
Base FPPs which count toward the bonus requirement begin with the first hand played after the deposit is made to your account.
FPPs that you win in a satellite do not count towards getting a bonus. For instance, if you enter a 100 FPP satellite, win a seat into a 1000 FPP satellite, and then unregister, you're credited with 1000 FPPs. Those do *not* count toward cashing in a deposit bonus. FreePlay and Freeroll tournaments do not award FPPs. These tournaments are completely free to play and as such are not part of the PokerStars FPP program.
After the required number of post-deposit Base FPPs have been earned, the bonus will move from "pending status" into your PokerStars cash balance. PokerStars will send you an email confirming that the bonus funds have been moved to your cash account. The transaction will also be noted in your 'transaction history' in the Cashier Window.
How to clear the bonus in record time
The best way to clear a bonus in short order is by Multi Tabling, playing more than one table simultaneously so that you’re earning FPP’s at 2X, 3X, or 4X the regular rate. Choosing a low limit game such as .50/1.00 Limit Hold’em is a great choice for this as it poses little risk to your bankroll.
